stringing spurs

Do you keep the spur covering then or where do you draw the line & seperate the bone from the skin? I've seen some glued back & different styles.

This is how I have done it in the past...they need to be cleaned up and conditioned to bring out the colors again. Hope this helps ya out

Pharmer.....I cut mine just like Shredder and alway clean off the scales. A q-tip works great for pushing out the bone marrow. I have seen some people coat the spurs with clear finger nail polish for the shinny look.

Here's how I have done mine. I prefer to trim the leg bone flush with either side of the spur, and I've found that a Dremel tool wih a cutting disc works great for doing this. An X-acto knife can be used to carefully remove any loose scaly material on the spur cap. As a final step, I like to add one coat of satin finish polyurethane to the spur cap only to help bring out the colors. Here's a picture of what I've done so far. In between each spur is a bead made of black-colored horn.

Those look really cool you guys! I wish I had known about making those. I would have eight spurs to go on a string. I always threw the legs away.
