Strut zones

I was browsing a book I seen at Menards the other day and it mentioned that if a bird is taken or dies another one takes his strut zone. Boy that was a long sentence, lol. Anyone hear of this or witness it. I can understand it, I know deer will take over an area. I would imagine it would be a lesser bird though, one that wasn't able to lick the tom already there. I wonder what sort of time frame it takes. I'm thinking about 4th season and was contimplating hunting the same area I took my 1st season bird. Any ideas.

There are a lot of birds out there you don't hear gobbling of a morning just due to the dominant bird wooping their tail feathers. It will only take a day or two for another bird to realize he is safe from the big tom and he will start running the area with a big mouth. Past experiences have shown me this happens frequently>

I agree with Shredder.I shot my bird Thursday morning.Today there was another mature gobbler strutting in the same field. He had about 5 hens tagging along also.

i have actually seen this happen faster, atleast i'm pretty sure that is what the other tom was doing! 2 years ago while turkey hunting i had 2 gobblers, both struttin' and gobblin' like crazy, come in one from the east and one from the west, both were dragging a couple hens with them! just before they stepped into shooting range i got to see a pretty good show, they began to fight and i watched this for about 3-4 minutes before i could get a good shot! once i was able to take a shot i took one of the gobblers! as the gobbler i shot was flopping around i set real still and the other gobbler began strutting again and pretty much pounced all over the gobbler i shot! now i was told that this was due to one gobbler immedietly taking over the other gobbler struttin' zone! but i myself thought that it may have been an unclaimed struttin' zone. who knows?
