Success in the Rain??

How does the rain really effect deer? Do the move just the same amount, hunker down, or what has been your experience in the past. Looks like the area I hunt is calling for 70% rain this weekend.

If its a light rain or drizzle-I actually PREFER that as I seem to see more big buck movement on those types of days. I promise you a slight rain or drizzle will not change a thing.

HOWEVER, a hard downpour with high winds and they will be bedded down in cover and not moving much. Once that front lifts though you can bet they will be on their feet, so timing a pre-storm or post-storm hunt can spell success :)

alot of the bucks i have shot were shot right before a rain.I always wait to track them and it is always raining.some were shot during a drizzle also.but keep your eyes peeled because if you think a deer can sneek up on ya when its dry, wait till you can't hear them coming.

I started a thread on this last year... http://iowawhitetail.com/forum/showthread.php?t=31727

I will hunt a light rain ANY day, early season, rut, late, period. Deer seem more comfortable. There's also those magical days when you're out there while the barometer is on the drop/rise right before/after a storm of some kind. Those days I'll hunt in a little adverse weather if it means I'll be out there as it passes or right before it arrives. I've been in the downpours before too and will never again waste my time.

Same for me. A light rain is awesome to hunt in. Not sure why but I do think that if they hear the rain dripping from the leaves and trees that they like to move more. Have always had good sightings in the rain.

A light rain can really work in our favor. The deer seem to be more comfortable moving for some reason. I think that may be due to the rain knocking down a lot of the scent in the area. Also the sound of the rain can give you an advantage due to you are not the only sound in the woods, but man is it hard to hear them coming in. Just some ideas on it but a light rain or drizzle can be some good hunting. Pouring rain is a no go.

A moist environment with light winds creates optimal conditions for a mature deer to use his sniffer and sneak around without making much ruckus.......for me light drizzle is a go.

Just after a heavy rain, deer stand up shake off and start milling around no matter the time of day....another green light, I like to watch for those heavy storms and time it so I get to my stand or blind as the rain is slowing down and starting to stop.

I'm gonna be the oddball here, and suggest that deer move alot in a light rain because of the constant noise sounds they can't pinpoint!! Makes them uneasy!! So they move! Now I have not been any writing offers for deer an deer hunting so I can be stupid!!!!!:D
