Success rattling during the rut?

Slow right now, try it late next week until the first of december. I have had what seems like my biggest bucks respond to rattling then.

I've been having good luck with the grunt tube! I'm only scouting for other hunters during archery this year but I've called two nice 8 points in already with a hot doe and young buck combo!

...used my rattle bag today, no luck yet....but the squirrels seemed to enjoy it!

i haven't rattled in anything big in about a week now. grunt tube and doe bleats are working like a champ for me. i've been grunting in does and bucks both.

It's traditionally not as effective right now but don't let that stop you from trying. I rattled in a few this morning - 1 was 4 1/2.

I would have to say that most of the decent bucks will be with does and not interested in a fight. Might even steer clear of it. However anybody that would have just gotten done with a doe and looking for the next could be a great candidate to rattle in. Timing is everything. Keep it up and it will pay off sooner or later.

I HUNG UP THE ANTLERS AND HAVE JUST BEEN USING A GRUNT TUBE. 2 DAYS AGO I HAD A GREAT LOOKING 10 WALK RIGHT UNDERNEATH MY STAND. I'VE SEEN HIM 6 TIMES NOW INCLUDING FRIDAY. BUT NOW HE HAS ON SIDE THAT GOT BROKE OFF IN THE PRIOR DAY OR TWO. SO I LET HIM GO 30 YARDS PAST AND GIVE A LITTLE GRUNT WHICH STOPS HIM. I GIVE ONE MORE GRUNT AND IT LAUNCHED HIM LIKE A ROCKET.

MY GUESS IS HE GOT HIS ASS KICKED WANTED NO PART OF THAT AGAIN. IT WAS KINDA FUNNY, HE WAS GOIN' LIKE A SCARED GRADE SCHOOLER.

I've been rattling in Wisconsin for some years now. Until this year, I've had little success. However, this year, I acquired some larger antlers, and, with the learned information from hearing not one, but two very incredible fights of mature bucks in the past two years, feel I'm better prepared to the task.

I've had reasonable success rattling this year throughout the season, although they've been 1.5-2.5 year olds. I called in four bucks in one sequence one evening about four weeks ago.

I would agree with Deadeye. Timing is everything when they arein the breeding period. Catch one between does and chances are he will come in.

I have rattled in a couple of bucks since November 1st. A couple 1 1/2 year olds and one 2 1/2 year old. It seemed to shut off around the 10th or so. I agree with the idea that the mature bucks are likely with does and don't want any part of rattling right now. The true talker grunt tube is still working with single deer though. Rattling will get better in a week or so.
