This summer I have been blessed enough to have plenty of work lined up and have been making pretty decent money. I have never been a guy who had to have the name brand gear when it came to getting it done in the woods. I have shot the same bow for the past 3 years and have no complaints with it what so ever, however it is time to let her go and move forward ha ha. My question to you guys is if you had 1000 dollars (That is my spending limit I've decided) to buy a new bow and set it up with a site and quiver what would you buy? I figured with bow season just close enough to taste but still out of reach this would be a great way to talk archery. I've got the itch to shoot BAD so I'll be buying her pretty soon :grin::grin::grin:!

Just set one up the other day. I may have a biased opinion but if you can shoot one. Make sure you do.

Elite Z-28
--G-5 Rock Sight (very nice sight for the money and the camo matches the bow perfectly)
--G-5 quiver or Elite quiver (riser mount)
--G-5 expert pro rest or qad rest
--Elite stabilizer or Octane with a little weight added

Absolutely the best HUNTING bow on the market. PERIOD. There is nothing that draws as smooth with that brace height and speed.:drink1:

I've heard nothing but good about elite archery the only problem being were is the nearest dealership to Ames, Iowa. What is the cost for the bow bone stock?

If you have no complaints with the bow you are using, I would invest in quality cold weather gear and then maybe the rest in a year old bow or maybe even a new used one. I bought the cabelas mt050 whitetail extreme cold weather gear last year and would take that over a new bow anyday of the week. It lets me hunt a lot longer without ever getting cold and that is more important to me. Then you would have about $500 bucks left to buy a bow in which you certain could buy a good bow for that. You may have to use your same sights etc but those can always be picked up later.

If you go with a bow there is a ton of them out there that will work well. Just shoot them all and see what you like best.......

I completely agree with LIV here. I am shooting a very old bow by some standards, 2003 hoyt. I love MT050 cold weather gear and the jacket without the liner this sweet for early season. Much more important than a new bow are some of the other components of the sport.

Yeah guys I completely understand were you guys are coming from but I've got all the clothing, treestands, trail camera's i need at this point in the game. I've never had a brand new bow thats set up for ME, so I figured that, that is first on my list of things to buy for this season.

I would shoot them all then because if you ask me, mine is the best, if I were to ask you, yours would be the best and if I asked them, theirs would be the best :) :) You will get a lot of opinions.

Definitely shoot more than one because 98% of them will be much more smooth than your 2003, don't be fooled by the first one you shoot :)

Josh:

I know that Boyd Mathes at Buckhollow has a very good variety of bows that he carries in Pella (Buckhollow Sports). Boyd is also a sponsor here on IW. Last I knew he carried Hoyt, Diamond, Bowtech. He probably carries more than that. Search Buck Hollow on the internet and I am sure you find his website. I have read numerous positive comments about Boyd on here from many different members.

Just an idea.

I won't argue with the earlier comment though. As I told you before, I am a big believer in the used bow market. Some really good used bows can be bought for < or = $500.

You want a local bow that can be bought close to Ames, go shoot a PSE AXE 6 or a PSE Vendetta and see what you think. :way:

For the last year I've been hanging around Archery Talk.

Hoyt Maxxis doesnt seem to be as popular this year as previous new hoyt models.
Destroyer 350 and Mathews Z7 seem to be the top line stuff. But your looking at 1000 for the bare bow.

Lots of talk about Elite Z28 and GT500. But there are a pile of them that go through the classifieds. Stothers Archery is another that has some good bows. Dont know if people like them at first but in the long run decide to move on. I think HCH here on IW has a new strothers infitiy that he speaks highly of.

Pesonally when I was in the market for a new bow this late winter, I shot the Maxxis, Destoryer 340 & 350 & Admiral, Mathews Z7.
My last two bows have been mathews so I was partial to the Z7 to start with. I narrowed it down to the 340 or the Z7 and finally decided with the Z7. I paid $897 barebow with Black Risor, orange dampeners, and orange and black string. My suggestion is NOT to go with a string from mathews. I bought my rest, and sight off of Archery Talk classifieds for about alot less then store prices. Both you cant tell were used. My stabilizer I couldnt get on AT there were sold quicker than they were put up for sale so I bit the bullet and paid the cheapest retail price I could find for a B-Stinger.

Anyways good luck in your choices. I suggest shooting a few bows to find the ATA and feel your looking for then narrowing down some brands that have the kind of bow. Then really take your time shooting them to find the one you like.

I have a Strother SR-71 and Strother bows are the best I have shot to date, BUT, it is a 3 1/2 hr drive from Ames to get one at the nearest dealer, which is Crackers in MO, and there is a long wait to get one. If you want something close, then this is why I recommended the PSE AXE 6.
