Sunday's sweet success

My nephew and I headed to his spot at 3:30 this morning (about an hour and 15 minute drive). We positioned ourselves right between approx 6-10 gobblers, couldn't be better right? Wrong! After bucket loads of gobbles and many more drumming sessions all the birds headed to the bottom away from the field edge where we set up. We stuck our ground until we saw a lone tom headed across the large field 400-500 yards from us. He proceeded to gobble every 2-3 times per minutes for the next 15 minutes until we couldn't take it anymore and made a move.
The location we set up next wasn't the best but we couldn't safely get any closer due to the terrain and the timber still being somewhat open with very little foliage. He stood his ground for 45 minutes and after I quit talking to him completely he slowly headed our way with a few hens. The hens came right into 10 yards to the DSD hen. (By the way if the real hens were not moving I could never tell the difference. Great looking decoy) he stayed at the top of the hill and continued dance until I told him to try to swing on him as he was directly to his right and going further right, pretty tough for a rh shooter. Well long story longer my nephew made it happen and put him down at 30 yards and the time was 8:25.

The tale of the tape is 23-1/2 pounds, 10.75" thick beard and one spur 1-3/16" & the other 7/8".
