Supply and Demand - Turkeys

I was just looking inot getting a turkey liscense as a NR. Last year I did not apply since the price was so steep. I just looked today and it is the same deal. I would have thought that Iowa would have learned the difference between turkey and deer, supply and demand. There was not a single zone or season that sold out for turkey last year. THis year I'd bet will be no different. Until the birds grow antlers, there is not much difference between one in IL, WI, IA, MO etc...

At $190+ - you can keep your turkeys...

acrum,
I agree. $190.00 for a turkey is silly. I would rather my buddies from out of state wait in a draw for a $75-$100 tag than have to tell them tags are available for "gulp" $190.00

I tend to agree with the deer fee, but the turkey fee is crazy...

I thought that except for a few muzzle loader tags that they did sell out the NR turkey licenses. I don't think the actual license fee is to high but requiring the small game and habitate fees puts it to high. Then this bill HR18 will raise the numbers to 3500 so they must think that they can sell them.

I guess if I dont draw a deer permit this fall, then I'll apply next spring since I'd most likely draw the deer permit that next year. That would make the required NR small game liscense and habiti fee a non-issue since I wouldn't have to pay for it if when drew the deer tag (assuming that actually happened).

I tend to disagree on the "there is not much difference between" an Iowa turkey and some of the surrounding states. Iowa consistantly harvests some of the heaviest turkeys in the country (of the top 20 heaviest Easterns recorded by NWTF, 9 are from Iowa....along with the #1 spot), and not to mention our success rates are some of the highest in the country as well. A few years back I was hunting with a group of buddies and we all shot huge birds......one was a 29lb monster with huge hooks that won the NWTF online turkey contest. I do think that the NR fees are way too high.
Good luck and good hunting!

I'm in agreement with acrum, I will apply for a turkey licence only on the years that I'm confident that I will get a deer permit. Unfortunatly I haven't seen licences decrease in price to often lately.

Just a question,
Why would you even want to hunt iowa birds if all birds are the same, and, when you can do it wisconsin for a lot cheaper then 190.00?
