Well guys, i'm back! I had a great time down in Alabama, but sad to say I didn't get a bird. My friend, Blake, shot a jake on the last day we were there. We arrived in Alabama on Tuesday and the temp was in the upper 60's. Well we woke up Wednesday morning to rain and temps in the upper 30's! On Wednesday morning I sat up in the corner of an alfalfa field and didn't hear a gobble, then suddenly some turkeys flew in the field, then more, and more, and more! I lost track at 45. I am estimating that there were around 80-90 birds in the field. It is the most birds I have ever seen at one time, but they wouldnt respond to any calls. The next morning after not hearing any gobbles we decided that we would basically have to hunt these turkeys like deer. (sit and wait, call once in awhile). Two toms came into the field after sitting for 5 1/2 hours straight but they presented me with a 50 yard shot which I was not comfortable taking. The rest of the week was pretty much the same with a lot of close calls(birds just out of range). On the final morning we were there the temp reached 65 degrees, and the turkeys gobbled like crazy, but still no luck. All and all I had a great time, met some really awesome people, and even though I didnt harvest a bird it's a trip i'll never forget. Hopefully i'll be able to go back next year.
-I would post some pictures of the trip but my computer won't upload pictures so i'll send them to someone and have them upload them for me on here.
