Switchback or XT

Guys, I think I may make the jump today, I am a little nervous. It will take quite the hit on the pocket fund. But my question is, is the XT that much better than the regular?? I also like the regular is 2 inches longer.

When I shot the XT, I thought it was a little smoother. If the price difference is minimal I'd go with the XT. If it's a bunch then I'd buy the original. Either one will be a good bow.

The bows today are like computers in that the manufacturer always make us feel like what we have is obsolete and we need to buy the newest one. I've never had a bow yet that was beneath my skill level as an archer and have never had one allow me more time in the woods.

Right now I am shooting a Buckmaster G2, Which I absolutely Love and has killed every deer I have shot at, But I am going to college this fall and am worried that this will be my last chance to upgrade. So that is my drive. And also, I have an Elk hunt this Fall!

Ive heard that the XT is slower than the other but havent actually seen them shot through a chronograph side by side myself

Well if pocket book is a influence I would definitely go with the regular switchback for 2 reasons, 1 it is around a 100 dollars cheaper then the XT and I have the regular 1 and I have shot the XT and can feel or see no difference. When you get up over 250 fps doesnt really matter if you are 3 fps slower. Switchbacks are on Sale so to speak. Shoot both and then get the one that feels right to you.

Well you guys, If you have and mind changing remarks, YOUR TOO LATE!!!

Congrats on your new purchase, just out of curiousity, what other brands did you try and then you narrowed it down between the switchbacks?

AMEN!!

I bought a new Mathews Legacy back in 2002 and since then every year they have come out with a bow that is the "latest and greatest" thing on the market.

First the LX, then the Outback, then the Switchback and now the Switchback XT. Makes my Legacy seem like an Edsel now if you believe the marketing hype.

Funny thing is it's still the same bow that was just 5 years ago the "smoothest, quietest, greatest bow ever created" at least according to the marketing materials. You show up at a 3D shoot with anything other than a new Switchback or Trykon or the newest BowTech though and they look at you like you came to a horse race riding a mule.

I know we hunters are always looking for an advantage but do we really need a brand new bow every year? I guess I need to see some more dramatic improvements in technology before I plop down another $700+.

I've had the same set up for the past 5 years now. It's by no means the best bow out there, but guess what, it has allowed me to fill all my tags every year that I've used it! I'm not saying that the high dollar bows aren't very very nice, and that I wouldn't love to own one, but I can't justify the $700, when the one I have now does the exact same thing.

I agree 180. Bows are like cars, we may be stuck driving the grocery getters while others are driving the newest sports models but they sure do bring home the groceries!

it was between a trkon, liberty, and switchback and XT. I have been shooting a G2 that has never done me wrong. And I could still kill deer with it for another 50 years. But bows are just like cars, out with the old, in with the new. If you would shoot one, you would realize how sweet it is. It is still expensive, but if you dont by the best when you upgrade, you just keep getting farther behind!! YOu guys are right. I have no advantage with a new bow at twenty yards with a buck. any bow can kill a deer at twenty yards, but it is the hunter that gets within that twenty yards.
