T/C Encore

There have been many times I have started to type this on other posts, only to delete it because I felt I was hijacking. So I decided to throw this somewhat useless factoid out on its own.

Most muzzleloaders fall into primitive weapons status and do not require a FFL to ship. From what I have read, the T/C Encore is not one of them since it can be equipped with multiple barrels (modern cartridges).

I doubt anybody is going to solely base their decision on purchasing a muzzleloader on this, but at least it gives you something to think about. It might complicate things if you ever need to ship it back to the factory for warranty work.

Correct me if I'm wrong on this.

I am in the process of buying a 204 ruger barrel for mine so I can Varmint hunt. It is a little less than primitive but shoots the same and all. I would not be against a regulation like colorado for iron sights only on ML firearms....kind of bring the primitive back to it just a bit...just my $.02

I believe Minnesota has this regulation, too.

Shredder,
I know your heart is good with your idea, but after having hunted in MN with the irons the last 4 to 5 years, I can tell you that it is not something you want. With in-line MZL you really are not carrying a primitive weapon and many guys will try to shoot the weapon beyond its practical range without a scope. What you end up with is a lot more wounded deer and kills that are not so "clean". My personal feeling on the issue is if we want to outlaw In-lines and go back to true black powder muzzleloading, then yes, no scopes would be ideal.

However, we know that will never happen, so I say lets encourage clean kills. There are many other reasons to allow some sort of scope on the weapon....like vision problems that come with aging...etc. In MN if it were up to me, I would try to keep both sides of the fence happy. I would allow the 1st week of our 3 week MZL season to be traditional black-powder only, then the remaining 2 weeks would be open to all with scopes being legal. Or something along those lines.

Not allowing a scope on a modern MZL to me is like saying that you cant use a site on your compound during archery season.

Just some things to think about.

Maybe I need to clarify my post. I had the need to ship my muzzleloader back to the manufacturer. I was able to use UPS (as a "normal" citizen, non-FFL bearer) because even though it is a "modern" in-line, it is viewed as a primitive weapon for shipping purposes.

The T/C Encore muzzleloader does not share this status and HAS to be shipped by a FFL bearing individual.

Most likely no big deal......

If the frame does not need to go...ie, just a barrel, regular means is fine. It is the frame that needs to go thru the FFL dealers.

Is that what you were asking Randy?? Sorry, I kind of through your post off in the first place.

I would not trade my Encore for anything just because of the versatility of it with barrels. Even considering the shotgun turkey barrel for it along with the rifle barrel I am in the process.

Yeah, the frame part was what I was getting at. Maybe a junk post but that is why I wanted it on it's own.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to discredit the gun. I really like the concept of single frame, multiple barrels.

And what are the odds you are going to need to ship it to the factory for warranty work?

Low odds it would need work but I guess it is possible. With a lifetime warranty tho....I would bet the dealer would have to deal with the shipping back to the company anyways....??? Maybe Gunrunr can help out on that one

Shredder - did you ever get that 204 barrel and are you satified with it? I am trying to decide between new barrel versus new gun just for coyotes.

It is one flat shooting round..not sure of the damage it does on critters yet tho. Testing will commence in the morning if we can get one in.

I don't think it will be as devastating on coyotes as well as my 22-250 but I think it will be more pelt friendly on the smaller predators. If the bobcat season is passed, I will give up most of the late deer season for the hunt of the ultimate predator and this will be my go to gun for that.

One other thing to add...I would look at the 26 inch barrel over the 28 inch pro hunter version...ballistics seemed to be better for the shorter barrel with the 204 round.
