I started the season off in Kansas with a good friend where we shot a few long beards. I was lucky enough to shot two Toms while Thomas took a nice Tom as well. After returning to Iowa I took the wife out for second season where we got rained on with a lot of wind. We hunted until three or so and decided we have had enough. While we were walking out we saw a Tom and three hens working there way down a drainage. I felt I knew where they were going and I left the wife and most of our gear behind and tried to cut them of. I was able to get in front of them and shortly after the Tom showed up. The hens weren't with him anymore because I think they saw us when we saw them. Anyways the tom was about 60 yards out and started to work away so I decided to let him have it. He dropped and started doing the kicking chicken!!! We hunted all day on Saturday with no luck. The wife decided she wanted to sleep in on Sunday (her birthday was the day before) and since I was tagged out I let it slide. We decided to try another place that was about an hour away so we picked up camp and headed over. We were in the blind by 12 and by 3:30 we had six young gobblers at fifteen yards. Since the wife hadn't ever shot a turkey she decided one of these jakes would wear her tag just fine! She aim the gun and blasted her first Jake with one shot.

I went with my uncle turkey hunting fourth season. Friday morning we had two cocky jakes come in and tried to put the move on my hen decoy. My uncle decided he would take one since he hasn't ever harvested one with a bow before. They seen him draw because he refused to wear black in the blind. They didn't spook to much and was still at ten yards. Nerves must have gotten to him because he missed low. We hunted the rest of the day with no luck. Saturday we went to the same spot. We didn't hear or see anything so come nine o'clock my uncle decided he wanted to go eat. I stayed in the blind because we were in a good spot, so I thought. Two o'clock came around and I still haven't seen or heard anything so I called him to come get me. I ate real quick and we went out to another hot spot. This time we left the bows in the truck and took the shot guns out. I usually don't like using my strutter decoy during the late season but my uncle insisted. Twenty minutes after we got set up we had three jakes come in that caught my uncle moving. I kind of thought it was a waist of time sticking around after that but ten minutes later a Tom showed up about 80 yards out. He wasn't real interested in our calling and was working straight across the field when he saw the strutter. He came in and I had to shoot him to save Bob. (that's the strutters name!). With some four shot to the face of that old gobbler I was tagged out. When I got to him and was looking him over I found two beards 10 7/8 and 7 1/2 with 1 3/8 hooks and he weighed 23 pounds, making him my best bird to date.

Congrats on an awesome season! That wet turkey pictures is hilarious!! I don't even like shooting wet turkeys because of that reason.
