Split_G3
here ya go...... here's a pic of "BRUTUS" i have another photo but everytime i try to put it on here it says i exceed kb. my new scanner is junk sorry that the photo is not very good. also before anyone asks because i am sure it has crossed the minds of several, the reason there are no harvest photos is because he will not let me have one to put on the internet because all photos include him in the shot and he don't want them cropped. i tried to take a couple of them and cover his face up with a small sheet of paper and the pictures came out of the other end of my scanner in 2 pieces! but i will try to get the other taxidermy pic of him on here a.s.a.p because in that photo you can get a better look at tine length!

Re: Taxidermy picture of "BRUTUS"

His main beams never curl back in do they? The only thing that would make this buck even better is if you had shot him yourself after all the hard work you put in for him. I still think it is strange the neighbor did not fill you in that he had shot him since you already knew he existed??????

Re: Taxidermy picture of "BRUTUS"

just out of curiousity ya'll, i got a question for everyone. i have noticed something after looking at countless magazines, books and photos that there are a very very low number of bucks that have been killed that have antlers such as the ones on this deer, not the size of the antlers but the proportion of them. like i said very few have been killed with antlers like this, my question is this: "almost" all bucks have a curviture to their antlers, some more severe then others, very few deer have horns that grow straight out like this one why is that? i wonder if their is something that causes this?

I don't know but, that had to be a truly impressive sight when that boy was navigating thru limbs and tight brush!

Re: Taxidermy picture of "BRUTUS"

Back in 92' 93 I worked @ an Army Ammunition Depot in Il. Lost of huge bucks to observe on security patrol third shift. One that amazed me had even less curvature of the main beams than "Brutis" It was an eight pt. with a lot of mass. He did'nt look like much from the side but from the front or back He was a shocker! Looking like a 10 pt because the main beans actually went almost straight out then turned up about 5-6 inches from the end. I wanted to video tape or photo him but cameras were a big issue there.

As a side note... I was able to spend considerable time observing deer year round there. I once watched a doe feed off the tree while standing on her hind legs. No big deal until I decided to actually time how long she remained on only the back legs. 2 min 45 sec. I'd never would have guessed.

Re: Taxidermy picture of "BRUTUS"

SplitG3, I keep jumping back to the other photo for a comparison. Even though the photo is of poor quality one can tell that the deer is a real pig. It looks like he has his head cocked back doing the lip curl. My point is, I see more horn curvature in your origional photo of BRUTUS than I can see on the neighbors deer. Is it posible that BRUTUS is still alive?

Oops, did I just let the cat out of the bag? Hey dirtball, I think your geting snowballed. Has SplitG3 been telling you there are no big deer left in Ohio.

Re: Taxidermy picture of "BRUTUS"

all 4's i agree with you on the photo with him doing the lip curl, after studying the photo over and over i don't believe it is him. at the time that photo was taken i more less assumed it was "BRUTUS" because all i knew at the time was a monster came out of the timber and i had to take pics as fast as i could. but if someone could straighten the trail cam pic out for me you could definetly see that it is him in the trail cam picture! sorry my scanners junk!

Re: Taxidermy picture of "BRUTUS"

He told me he had one chained up for me but I think he is going to "crawfish" on the deal. Thanks for the info all4s, now I know that there could be one huge deer up there for me. How come when it comes to big deer your friends get selfish.

Awesome deer, congrats to your neighbor, hope it isn't the one you've been chasing, go get the "twin" this season, good luck

Awesome! This buck shows the one and only thing that I disagree with B&C on their measuring system.

Spread credit: spread credit may equal but not exceed the longest tine.

So... if, say this guy had a 25" inside spread, but his longest main beam is only 23", his spread credit is 23".

This rule really hurts deer that grow their antlers straight out and do not curve back in. I'm not sure if that would happen on this deer though because it looks like his main beams are real long.

What a beautiful deer!

Hey double lung, the buck scored 199 7/8 before deductions and 193 4/8 after. it had a 30 3/4 inch inside spread, 7 1/4 inch bases, 12 and 13 inch G3's and G4's, and i can't remember main beam length.
