Tender racks?

Aren't their racks supposed to be kinda' tender and fragile right now? I watched a 120 class buck raking small trees tonight when I was doing a drive by. I thought that seemed strange.

By the end of July their antlers are about done growing. The month of August they go through the calcification process & they will mess around lightly with them at any time once there done growing. The end of August, beginning of September they shed their velvet & begin making rubs. As always, all buck are not created equal & they will vary in where they are in the antler growing process by a couple of weeks sometimes. It wouldn't supprise me to see that kind of behavior already in a few buck.

yes they are very tender in there early ages
