The Bean Buck

Went out on Tuesday and on my out I managed to bump a nice ten out of his bed in the middle of a bean field. We had a stare down for around 15 minutes or so at 35 to 40 yards. I got a good look at his rack and I have officially change the deer I am after. He is around 20" wide and around 9 to 10 inches tall. He had split brows and his mass was pretty good. I found two scrapes pretty close to this area and hung two cameras hopefully I will have pictures of him in a couple weeks. My only fear now is that I didn't spook him out of the area. I never moved until he was out of sight and I know he couldn't see me. So I am going to keep my fingers crossed.

Keep you posted.

It was a first for me to have the deer actually stay there and just stare at me. Usually they run off however I got to study his rack for a while before he wandered off. There was nothing between me and him other than beans. The other thing was it has rained here recently and the ground is still wet. I happened to follow his tracks into this pocket. When he jumped I froze and just watched. Really didn't want him to see me move. His right eyes is a bright blue color so it makes me believe that he is blind in that eye.

Re: The Bean Buck (Updated)

Well I couldn't wait two weeks and went out today to check my camera which I had two out there. I had pictures of the Bean Buck and for some reason they look smaller on the camera than in person. Anyways let me know what you think and what you would score him at. I thought he would go 150 but now I am second guessing.

I'd put him in the upper 40's and I'd say he's an easy 4 1/2 +. Regardless, nice buck. I can say one thing for sure...come rut he's going to have one heck of a neck on him.

Is the left eye the one that you said looked hazy?

Re: The Bean Buck (Updated)

probably shy of 150 gross...he's either a pig of a 3.5year old OR a 4.5. I'm just guessing more about the pig of a 3.5 year old because he doesn't have much "sag" in his belly and his haunches aren't as full as I'd expect for a 4.5 year old.

He's a good-un now, and would be a total hawg next year, but who knows if he'd make it.

I'd say a great target buck.
