The Secret Life of Deer. This article appears in the Dec edition of Petersen's Hunting magazine on page 16. It's about attaching a lipstick size camera to a buck's anter to see and hear whitetail behavior. The camera also has a GPS unit to find it after the buck sheds his antlers. Currently using it on "penned" animals with "relay towers" trasferring the signals. Apparently can see the live feed on the internet www.wildlifelive.org. Futures plans include using satellite technology to transmitt the signals on wild deer. The idea is from Dan Parrott, executive director of Wildlife Live of Ohio. He states towards the end of the article, "The things we can learn will rewrite hunting tactics. We'll learn so much about rattling, grunting and deer movements in relation to weather and other factors."
I have mixed feelings about this. For one, it would be interesting to "see" what the deer sees. But, I think this goes to far if used for hunting purposes. In the future are people going to say, Hey "hunter" your buck is just 75 yards in this direction according to my GPS. Or, the bucks camera shows he uses this ditch to get back to his bedding area, just go sit there and wait.
I do have a motion camera that I use to research the deer in areas that I hunt. But strapping a video camera/GPS unit to a buck's rack...thats going a little to far if used for hunting the animal.
What do you whitetailers think?
