Thermal scopes

Anyone out there have strong opinions on what thermals to stay away from or lean towards? Seems like there is a full gamet of options. Don’t need something the nicest on the market, but don’t want junk that isn’t reliable. I started trapping this fall, and would like to start killing some coyotes as well to help out with predator control.

I’ve got a Wraith mini that I’ve been happy with. It all depends on your budget and what style you prefer. You can get a decent entry level sight for around 1k. Unless you’re shooting at long ranges, there’s a good selection in that price range that should work fine.

I recommend a good scope if shooting at anything past 100yds. Anything under $2500 is just going to show a blob. I prefer to know what I’m shooting at. Last thing I want to do is shoot someone’s cat or dog. I have a pulsar that was about $5000. At 400yds I can’t decipher cat from coon. But it’s out of my range anyway. I hunt with guys that spent $10,000 and they can decipher out to 1000yds but I don’t see the need. Another thing to consider is having one with a range finder as well. Impossible to judge distance in the dark without it.

Very interested as well. Have been told buy once cry once. Or a better handheld than scope if you can't swing 640 for both thoughts or opinions.

Pulsar makes a few different models. Biggest thing for me was wanting range finder. Some guys I know will buy cheaper scope and get hand held with range finder. I do have a hand held as well, but no range finder in it. But it’s easier to scan with hand held until spot something.

I've owned a handful of night scopes, started with ATN thermal and night vision - then a Hogster R35 - then latest is a RIX Storm S3. That scope for $1699 from Midwest Thermal Optics is the best bang for the buck I've seen! I've shot coons and coyotes out to 250 without hesitation. Shot a wild hog at 520 yds (luck involved there of course but can't kill em if you don't shoot! haha). I'd recommend that scope to anyone!
