Time to Plan for Spring Tree and Shrub Plantings is Now
<ST1<st1:City w:st="on">AMES</st1:City></ST1 - While spring is a few weeks away, the time to think about tree planting is already here.

Records were set in <st1:State w:st="on"><ST1Iowa</st1:State> this past winter and soon all of snow will be melting with the rising temperatures. Before the snow and frost is gone for the season, consider planting some trees and shrubs and place an order. Foresters can help to decide which trees will do best in your conservation planting even assist with possible cost share programs.

Nurseries in <st1:State w:st="on"><ST1Iowa</st1:State> are gearing up for spring so now is the time to order seedlings to insure you get the trees and shrubs needed.

"Our State Forest Nursery produces between two and four million seedlings yearly," said Aaron Lumley, forestry supervisor for the Iowa Department of Natural Resources. "Most are sold for conservation plantings with a smaller number sold as wildlife or song bird packets for smaller land holdings."
The seedlings offered by the state are 8" to 24" tall and sell between $0.25 and $0.55 per seedlings.
