This is why I hunt.

This afternoon I sat in a new stand location. I had a very close encounter with a 160 to 170 inch 10 point but couldn't quite close the deal. (I couldn't get him stopped) But the whole hunt was cool. Besides the deer, I am set up 150 yards away from an eagles nest so I saw them fly by constantly. I saw 2 river otters playing around in the river. Elk from the nearby ranch were bugling nonstop. A herd of turkey's went by and the coyotes were howling for a couple minutes. All in all a pretty good night in the stand.

(I might hit this spot this spring on the birds)

That sounds like the perfect hunt. People always ask how can you sit out there day after day don't you get bored. I just say you should try it.

Had a similar thing happen to me Sunday, Moose. Really nice buck for my area came right in front of my stand (10 yards) but was running at full speed and I couldn't get him to stop.

Oh well, that's all part of the game.

I had a pretty good weekend myself. Never took a shot but I had deer in front of me most of the daylight hours. Sat from dark to dark Fri-Sun. Seen 9 different bucks, countless does, Bald and Golden Eagles, a Timber wolf. A very large 3-legged bear, Pine martin, and a Ruff Grouse drumming on a log. Oh yea, and a bull and cow moose. Not all, but most were seen from the stand. Gotta love northern Minnesota in the fall.

Also dumped an oz. of doe in heat down my front side ( wet from my chin to my crotch) when I accidently pulled the rubber curly tube out of the scent dripper that I had just filled!
