It's so nice to be able to get counsel from you guys. I've bowhunted some in the past. Have taken several shots but until now have not taken a deer. For the most part I would say I had been hunting very marginal areas plus I had not read much in the past. But despite my lack of "success" I really came to love the sport. Since then I've lived overseas where I've had time to gain some good foundational "book" knowledge from various books, magazines and videos. Not to mention this website.
Next summer my family and I will be moving back to our home state of Iowa and I can't wait to get the bow out again. As I've thought about an overall plan and goals for next season I started to ask myself this question, " Would it be best for a beginner like me to apply myself to sound fundamentals such as scent control, proper scouting habits, shooting accuracy etc. but concentrate on taking does or several of them instead of having some type of grandious dreams about "monster bucks" at this stage?" Of course, I would be serious about mature bucks if I were to come across them.I just thought if I took one step at a time it would build my confidence, give me more opportunities to take shots not to mention practical things like learning to field dress animals. I would really appreciate any thoughts you guys would have.
