Three Strikes

Well, Bottom Line, I missed him. Had some nice birds coming in on Friday right off the bat. We were hunting right on the edge of a clover field and timber. As the birds seemed to be right over the crest of the hill, they shut up. They were quiet for about 20 minutes, and then a gun went off. Two guys, that we had no idea were there, walked into the field, checked around, and left. They missed. The land is leased by an outfitter, who put guys there, even though he knew we would be out. /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif
Anyway, Saturday the birds were way back in the timber, so later we went in and set up. I was in my blind with decoys to my left around 13 yards. I took my video camera just in case. I did some calling around 1. At 1:18, this bird came sneaking in without a sound. He popped up and then disappeared again. Showed back up a few minutes later and hung out at around 16 yards. I would have taken the shot, but too much ground cover in the way. He was walking to the left toward the decoys when I shot first. Just missed over his back. I may have hit feathers, but no blood. Arrow exploded as it glanced off something. He ran a few yards and stopped. I made a call to keep him curious and shot again. The shot was on the mark, but I failed to see a small tree in the way. Arrow drilled that. Third shot was further down the trail. After number three, he scurried away. Wow. Sucks. After shooting, I sat and wondered what happened. I drew another arrow to see. My peep had turned slightly sideways on me, barely allowing me to see through it. Made sense, as when I was shooting, I couldn't figure out why I could only pick up the pin and not the bird at the same time. Hopefully the video is viewable. I'm heading back out this week, hopefully more successful.
