Tick and Chigger Defense?

I have an idea I'm going to try this spring. I am going to wear Hip-Boots, and coat the tops with every Deet and Tick repellent I can find. This won't stop the ones falling on me, but might stop the hords coming up the legs. Think this will work?

This is all you need

I've seen that and wondered how it works. Last yr I tried everything, and nothing seemed to phase them. Ticks were one thing,,but at least you can usually see them, and pick them off,, but Chiggers,, now they are soemthing else. No matter what I put on they bit me, and you can't see them. They have got to be the invention of the DEVIL!

After a couple BAD run-ins with ticks and chiggers last spring, I was ready to give up turkey hunting. Then I found this stuff. You spray down all of your clthes with it. I sprayed boots, socks, pants, shirts, hat, everything but my boxers. You have to let it dry overnight and you are good for at least a month.

Countless times last May I sat with my back to a tree and watched one tick after another crawl up my leg. They made it to about my knee and fell off deader than a door nail. Not one bite on me after this stuff coated my clothes. You still have to keep your seams tight because it doesn't kill them instantly. If it is easy for them to get to your skin then this stuff will be ineffective. I will never go in the woods again without it.

P.S.- wear gloves and a face mask when spraying this stuff, or you will suffer the consequences. I got a little overspray on my left hand the first time I used it and woke up in the middke of the night on FIRE!

Never seen sawyer treatment before where can I find it? Had 26 ticks in one outing need someting new to try.

I see this Sawyers has the P------thene, however you spell it,in it. I wonder if Sawyers is special somehow or is any spray with the P in it just as effective?

Loneranger, I think I'd go for anything with permethrin in it. They are very much alike, and as stated above use PPE's when spraying the stuff.
I don't think anything with "P" in it would do much good

Sorry, could help myself

I buy it at Cabela's, but I've seen it other places too... I just can't remember where. FYI, it takes me 2 cans per set of clothing to thoroughly coat them.

I'll have to see if I can find that stuff, looks promising. I know of a couple of locals with lime disease & I don't like what it can do to a human body. One thing I found for ticks & especially chiggers is Avon Skin So Soft. One year I had hundreds of chigger bites on both legs & almost clawed my legs off after raspberry picking around the bigining of July. The Avon stuff works, haven't had a chigger bite since. The only down side is you will smell like a French whore!

Another vote for Sawyer's. I used it for the first time last year and it will kill any little critter that crawls on you. Just like others have said...it is POTENT stuff! Watch out when you spray it. And make sure you give it plenty of hours to dry on clothes.

I always wear a pair of elastic ankle gaiters between my boot tops and pants (I have both Buck Wing and Ol' Tom brands...both are great). But to tell you the truth, I hate spraying my hunting clothes with any kind of stuff. Most of the time the gaiters, a good face net and a tight and lightweight base layer work great. Then I will roll down all my clothes with a cat-hair/lint roller at the end of each hunt to remove any little ticks or bugs.

Boys after reading your posts, I find that it is my duty to tell you of your political uncorrectness. You must no longer refer to Chiggers as Chiggers. They must be called Chee-groes from now on. I'll be watching.

When using permethrin you are not suppose to spray it directly on yourself, spray it when you clothes are off. I actually use the stuff that you have to soak in (because it is military supplied

) I have used the spray stuff but if you have the time use the concentrated stuff that you have to soak in your clothes, Usually takes about a day to do this to your garments.

This stuff is not bug spray, always spray while clothes are off of you.
