Ticks

Worst case of tick infestation I have seen this year. Not sure why this deer seems to have so many when the other deer have few.

It is a terrible year for them I have found over twelve on my two kids and me all together. I think part of my problem is they keep dropping off our lab we Frontlined her and she must be bringing them in the house. I am going to try and put down Sevin on my yard has anyone had any luck with this product for killing ticks in your yard? These have all been brown ticks no deer ticks at least.

I pulled a card today and had this one on it. Man is she thin. She also has a fawn that looks normal. My son lost one dog to a disease transmitted by brown dog ticks and had a beagle get real sick from the same disease.

Yikes!!

Those are pretty graphic tick infestations. With all that many of us do to feed the deer, provide mineral supplements, etc, it's too bad we can't provide something that reduces ticks and flies. I think that would go a long way towards helping provide relief to the deer in the summer and reduce their stress levels.

Isn't it obvious? That deer is somehow blood related to Kratz, the biggest tick magnet out there.

That picture makes my skin crawl and makes me lift my feet up onto the chair foot pegs.

Goatman,

You win! What you win, I got no idea, but your photo is "better" than mine!

With the tick borne illnesses, makes me wonder about field dressing deer. I do wear gloves.

for the dogs...

for those of you having problems with ticks on your dogs and you're using Frontline, i strongly recommend trying K9-Advantix. we were having all kinds of ticks and wood fleas (in the ears) ou here in AZ, even with Frontline. our vet recommended K9-Advantix as a better solution and we've never had a problem since switching.

I stacked the deck. This one had longer than yours to gather more ticks. It would be interesting to see your doe now and look at her health condition. At any rate I guess I'm not going to the woods for awhile.

K-9 Advantix is seemingly ineffective here in Iowa....I don't even carry it in my office. Frontline is still the best measure here and heavy infestations I recommend Preventic Collars which contain Amitraz. So far no problems on patients I see.

Ticks are bad this year, but if your having problems with them in your yard, or around the house, try some Tempo. You can buy it anywhere chemicals are sold, and it is very safe for pets and children in the yard. It is liquid that you spray the yard with, and so far has worked great with the ticks around my house.

It is also safe to spray inside the house as well.

Does it work for spiders also?
