Timber VS Crop?

I just got permission on a property with a small 3-4 acre timber patch and I was hoping to get permission on a place I shed hunt that's 80 acres of timber. (same guy owns it) but he said 4 guys were already hunting that and nobody was hunting the small 3-4 acre ground. IMO I would rather have a less pressured piece. But would you rather have 3-4 acres and lots of crop or 80 acres of timber and you have to share it with 4 guys? Just curious what you think.

Hunt the smaller parcel, but don't over hunt it. In smaller plots it is very easy to push any deer that are there away for a while.

Right now from what everyone is saying about acorns I'd say timber, but once deer start hitting the corn or beans then the 4 acres would be prime. Like said above I like having land to myself.

The guys on the bigger piece bow hunt? I'd hunt BOTH and I like getting in a spot like that before gun season when folks blow the piss outta it.

I'd go with the small piece rather than both now :) hope to be on the harvest forum tomorrow night if I get lucky...oh and maybe in the record books :)

I'm getting a trail cam out there when I get the chance. Like tomorrow!

i like hunting fields more than woods. yesterday morning i hunted the woods for 4 hours and didnt see a thing. yesterday afternoon i hunted a 40 acre cotton field for 2 hours, saw 4 deer all in range. if your gonna bow hunt a field the key is knowing where they come out at.

small parcels

I like hunting smaller parcels, but you have to be certain that you hunt the edges, almost impossible to go in to the middle of the cover. Game cameras will help on that type of parcel!

Good luck!

I hunt one of those smaller spots with about 300 yards of creek bottom with plenty of trees. It is right next to a 90 acre timber that I can hunt but would have to share with a father, son that also hunts it. I see a ton of deer on that creek and to be honest I have trail cam pics of bigger deer then what's on that 90 acre piece next door. IMO I belive the bigger bucks like the smaller pieces that have no pressure a lot more than the bigger timber with a bunch of guys running around in it....
