Timing the Rut???????

I've been reading Wayne Laroche's "Rut Predictor" calender and it shows the full moon in November on the 9th. He shows the seeking phase from the 6th to the 12th, the chase phase from the 13th to the 19th and the breeding phase from the 20th to the 26th. So what do you guys think the best time will be this year. Do you like the seeking phase or the chase phase better?

Another thing in question is the full moon. What has your experience been hunting during the full moon?

I try to take vacation every year on both sides of Veterans Day. I don't really know much about all the different phases and theories, my head hurts thinking about too many things at a time. My personal statistics for the 30 years I have bowhunted in Iowa have the majority of the mature bucks seen between Nov 5th and 25th.

However, the last 2-3 years I have noticed an increase in mature bucks "cruisin for a bruisin" after Oct 24th. Maybe due to the increasing number of them and large population of does we have now that may go into heat at varying times. I may have to start my vacation vacation around Halloween so I don't think I'm missing out on anything.

I'm actually seeing more and more mature bucks each year just strolling around like a stupid first year buck.

I used to think that October was a warmup month for me to get into good hunting form, but these days my feeling is that a hunter that enjoys seeing and hunting nice bucks should be out there every day they can during the seasons.

IF....limited on time to hunt, I will still center on Veterans Day until my experience says different.

Be safe and have fun.

I have tried to plan my November vacation time around the Rut for the last 15 years. I wish I were in the position to take the entire month of November off to bow hunt.

I now plan on which ever week the 15th falls into and I have to fully agree with Double Throat Patch about the 10th through the 17th as being PRIME TIME.

Any day in the woods at any time is a good day for me. You can't get a chance at a corn fed monster thinking about going.

All this talk about the rut is getting me pumped!

Good Luck to everyone this year!

The week around Veterans Day is my annual planned vacation. I do have a friend that has taken a lot of nice deer on Halloween.

I have shot a few P+Y bucks between Nov 6th and the 8th but have seen the majority of the giants crusing in search of does from Nov 15th to Dec 1. Last year, Thanksgiving weekend, I saw 5 bucks that were 125 or better with two of them being over 160. That is a lot of action after peak rut. I was going to take the first full week of november off and may take the second as well or at least part of it. I can then fill in the days there after with miday hunts during lunch and coming in late to work.

i'll take off the week of the 5th and then only work half days the 10th thru the 17th and i seem to see bigger bucks in the afternoon between say 11am and 3 pm than i have in the mourning or evenings i also tend to see smaller bucks in the a.m during them dates
