I'm looking forward to reading of everyone's adventures as I won't be able to take the stand for another week or so.

So COME ON, let's hear it... who went out... FEED THE ADDICTION!!! (please)

If it makes you feel any better I am on hunting hiatus myself. Seems the garage kit showed up early and I have a 28 x 38 attached garage to build before the rut.

Went out tonight and had deer all over me.Not many sceeters, but alot of little biting black knats.Sat alphalfa field and had does from 4:30 till dark.Wanted to fill doe tag,but got winded numerous times by new deer entering field. I had 5 different mature does at less than 15 yards when a new arrival would sound the alarm.I am set up smack dab in the middle of the field and deer come from every direction,so no wind is a good wind. They don't go far and return quickly,I just have limited shooting lanes. At one time I had over 30 deer within 150 yards. It just felt good to feel the rush again.

went out tonight. got eaten. wind swirled. Saw a few does a small buck and a shooter. The shooter was on my way out though:(

As bit up as I got grilling burgers tonight, I may be able to endure this wait.

Had a buddy smack a doe in the first 45 minutes this morning. He called to tell me he's already got the jerky in the oven with backstraps on the grill.

did you see him with your flashlight or did you leave a little early???

I just went out to glass from a distance later at night and got killed by the black gnats. Think I'll wait til next week when its supposed to cool down a bit.

Saturday was our opener, turned out to be a good day even though no deer were harvested. I had a samll buck under me at 7:oo a.m., half hour later two big doe & two yearlings bedded 15 yards from the stand & hung around for a couple of ours.

That evening I relocated to a creek bottom & I put my son in a good early season staging area with a lot of white oaks. I have been watching a good buck the last three years (trail camera) but never seen him while hunting. Once I found some good rubs & scrapes in early September I knew he was still around.

I had an idea of where he would be coming from & put my son there. I gave him some last minute advice & told him he would probably see him & he may only get one chance. My son has taken several deer & never gets shook up but there's a 1st time for everything. Low & behold about 20 minutes before quiting time while watching a doe feed under his stand he looks back over his shoulder & here he comes. As soon as my son laid eyes on him he said holy ___! & tried to become part of the tree bark while shaking profusely. The buck stoped beside him at 25 yards, he managed to draw but shook like a washing machine on spin cycle. He let one fly but unfortunately his cam hit his leg while in a sitting position & cleaned missed him. When I got to the truck all he could say was "huuuge, huuuge buuuccck". I think he shook for two days! I told him that's what hunting is about, blood rushing encounters with huge buck, just be happy to have that experience, it's only day one & he don't know what happened. I felt bad for him but I've been there myself, got to love the adrenaline those whitetail bring on. Hope you're fired up & get out soon, good luck.

I think this is him two years ago.
