Well after a rough opening day with very few turkey sightings (one blown opprutunity) and relatively little turkey sound, I was back at it this morning, although not very confident. Much to my suprise my spot went from not much action yesterday to thunder roaring in every direction this morning. I set up in an spot that I had never sat at daybreak before and as soon as I got the dekes in the ground 4 toms started to scream about 200 yards away or so. I heard the birds hit the ground about 6:05, at which time I thought they were making there way in my direction since there gobbles were getting a little closer and there wasn't another hen in the woods making a noise. In the meantime I can hear another bird walking through a creek bottom about 400 yards behind me and he is really fired up giving off double and triple gobbles left and right. The second to last gobble that he let loose sounded as if he was making his way to a strutting zone that is often visited so my attention quickly switched back to the four birds roosted near me. MISTAKE!! Luckily one last gobble at 50 yards alerted me of the sneaking bad boy before I was in real trouble. I took a quick glance behind me and knew there was enough cover between me and the bird so I did a 180 and got situated for him. 10 seconds later the spittin and drummin started and when he got to 10 yards I couldn't take it anymore and let the 10 gauge rip. Needless to say 10 yards and a 10 gauge is a pretty lethal combination. He goes 25 1/2 lbs. with a 10in. beard and inch spurs. I will post pics when I get off work
