Too Close...Check out the pics

Shredder

Life Member
ILdeerslayer and myself made an entrance into the area I hunt and got into the double stand on 11-13-03. The morning turned out a few does in the field, a couple small bucks and this thing. This is the deer I have been hunting for all season on this farm. At 39 yards and moderate winds, I just did not fell comfortable taking the shot. I elected to pass in hopes he would present a better/closer shot. The grunt call pulled him in close, just not close enough today. These are digital still images from the video camera.

Great pics man! You made the right decision. If it doesn't feel right then don't shoot (plus your shooting that Hoyt...

). Anyway he will give you a shot opportunity sooner or later... Good Luck!

Shredder, I can feel your pain. I have had 3 Booners creaping around my stands just out of range. It's a heart breaker, but that's why we love it. Keep after him.

It's your decision to hold off- no one will second guess that. I'm curious though- where were you in relation to the camera? He doesn't look that far...

Camera was over my right shoulder about 2 -3 feet away. The spot at which the first pic was captured, rangefinder said 39 yards. NW wind at 25 MPH prevented me from taking the shot, not the distance.

I'm guessing this is the buck that shredder downed today per Ghost's 11/14 post in the Harvest Report section. Nice buck! Looks like shredder's patience may have paid off.

hawkeyefan, this is actually a different deer on a different farm. I'm saving this one for next year assuming he does not meet his fate during the gun seasons
