ex-arizona cardinal football player quit the NFL to do what he thought right and joined the army just after september 11. he was killed in action sometime in the past 24 hours over in afghanistan.

he is a true hero.

Sad Story
 
My prayers go out to the family. This puts a lot of things into the proper perspective. He turned down 3.6 million so we can all be free. I have the utmost respect for anyone who puts on a uniform and puts their life on the line for my freedom.

What a standup MAN. It's to bad the media spends so much time on Pro Athletes and rape, murder and whatever else is going on. Here is a young man that does what god put us on this earth to do and his life is cut short. Truly a hero has been taken.
 
He and his brother joined up after 9/11. This was done as a true symbol of American pride. The NFL had requested many times to get video footage of him in basic training to go with stories for shows such as Sportcenter. Each time a request would come, he would send his C.O. to talk to the camera. He was said he wanted no special treatment and no publicity about him enlisting. Hopefully his brother will be sent home safely.
 
Every person that puts on the uniform is a hero in my book. Lots of heros without uniforms running around on 9/11 too as far as that goes.
 
Truley an admirable act he performed in the decision to enlist and heroic action he took in facing the scum that inhabits this earth. Certainly an individual we should all salute.
 
amazing but sad story! my thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends! now that is a professional athlete i would want my kids(when i get some) to look up too!

so sad, maybe it will make more americans realize what is more important in life, the huge house and the three new cars doesnt matter. be a patriot and appreciate the fact that we are free, not working in a sweat shop for room and board, live life a bit slower and thank god for everything. tillman is a great example and a true patriot his family has my deepest sympathies.
