Well, I was fortunate to harvest a good bird yesterday with my bow. I thought I made a solid hit on him but he took flight (if I was shot I sure wouldn't go any where!). Anyway, I usually let them go and find them later much like a deer, but in this case, airborne turkeys are a different game. I threw the blind off and was just able to see him crest the ridge into a huge block of briars, thickets and mf rose. I looked for two hours straight, no blood, feathers, nothing. I sat on a log, took a breather and decided to keep trying.
I walked along a pasteur, not thinking I had a prayer and then I saw a small black marble...his eye! He was sitting under a cedar like a rooster pheasant. I kept walking slowly, pretending I didn't see him and went back to get my bow. Thats right guys, was too tired to keep carrying it so I left it back at the log!! I was down to one shirt so took it off and hung it on a tree to mark his location. If the DNR had come by and seen a guy with a bow and no shirt I might have had some explaining to do! I finally snuck back up on him and made another shot. Still, he took flight but expired 30 yards away. Amazing birds! I am having trouble posting pics..never done it..but if anybody can help I would appreciate it! Tail got beat up but weighed 24 lbs, 1 1/8" spurs and 10.5" beard. Love chasin' em with a bow..never gets old and it shows you just can't give up!
