I used to shoot recurve quite a bit when I was younger and had a lot of time. I never did take that homemade setup into the woods for anything other than stump shooting.
Here's the question, I'd like to get back into the swing of things with that bow and possibly take a doe with it, but I want to keep shooting my compound too.
Does anyone out there shoot both? I hear that shooting recurve can mess with your compound shooting?

I shoot both , I have to practice alot more with my recurve/longbow to keep it accurate but once I harvest a buck with that I go to the compound to shoot does with , I dont shoot the compound that much ,basically set the sights and go with it. Just remember which bow is in your hand.

Practice at different times with each, with different mind sets. When I combine the two, I've found myself snap-shooting the compound, which is a bad habit. Make sure you practice from the treestand with your recurve before hunting, getting that longer recurve to shoot at a downward angle can be tricky (i.e. bottom limb hits your stand or leg). Good luck !

I shoot both all the time. sometimes right after each other. There just so different it doesnt matter. I think shooting a recurve make you more stable. (Sp?)

I sold my compound on ebay a week ago to force myself to use the recurve. My shot distance is now more limited but I have more fun shooting the stick and string than I EVER have with my compound. I am sure my success will suffer but at least when I get one on the ground, it will be that much more satisfying.

Shooting styles are typically so different between them that I couldn't see you having a problem. I shoot a target style recurve with a sight and kisser button on occasion. That bow lends to very similar form as when I shot wheels. I have absolutely no problem switching from that style to my barebows. The mechanics and shooting forms are way different.

My friends that switch wheels for sticks don't seem to have any problems either.

I have a hard enough time juggling shooting duties with a recurve, longbow, and a self bow. The curve and longbow shoot about the same but that osage inspiration will deal me fits when I don't give her enough attention.
I still own my wheel bows but just don't have any urge to shoot them so that's not an issue.
Shredder, I applaud you. You certainly are committed.

Thanks guys,
I'll have to grab my recurve when I head up north to my parent's place over Labor Day. Probably start practicing now and hope to hunt with it next year....maybe even turkeys in the spring!
