trail camera flash question

my home brew suddenly is not using the flash at night... would low battery life cause this or did i maybe mess something up in the menu?

pete, i might be calling you. /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

good god, i have more daytime buck pics than ever, it's starting to get GOOD.

had to run out sorta quick so here's a little more information.

home brew p41 and the last time i checked it i had perfect night pictures. it sat for a week and this time all the night pictures went off but with no flash. i did notice that the battery was almost dead but figured that'd just shut the camera down rather than keep taking photos. i have a ton of day photos so i wonder how easy it is to accidentally turn off the flash? i'm guessing i'll run out tomorrow and swap new batteries and pull the cam and then try it in the dark to see if i can get it to work.

stupid extra trips.

It's possible you could have turned the flash off. On a P41 it's selected via a small grey button on the back of the cam. If I remember right, there's a lightning bolt looking symbol that'll show up on the LCD screen which indicates it'll always flash, the same symbol with a line through it means it'll never flash and no symbol at all means it's in auto light detection, which is good. I'm going off memory here so double check me. You could have bumped the button while installing into the case or the last time you checked pics.

This is TRUE. When the little lightning bolt is off it will only flash when it needs too.

Hmmm... lightning bolt symbol.

I do have 20 pictures, or so, of blackness. Thought maybe it was Halloween spooks.

Muddy, if I remember correctly, the top grey arrow of the four arrows on the back of the camera will toggle the lightning bolt symbol.

You probably just accidently turned the flash off.

what are the chances that in one of the black out pictures there was a booner in the house? /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

thanks for the replies, i will be buzzing to the trail cam quickly this afternoon.

I am almost positive that all of the missed photos were of booners. The dinks and does will arrive only when the camera is fixed. /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

interesting... went and checked the cam and low and behold i have 4 pictures last night with full flash.

when a person opens the p41 camera and disconnects the batteries from the door posts would that reset the previous settings?

i'll have to go back in a couple days and make sure things are still right.

last i heard they were around $175 just for the camera on ebay... you'd still have to get the other hardware and build the home brew. VMAN just sold one for i think $300 used.

The button circled is the button that you will push to manually adjust the flash. You want to keep pushing it until no lighting bolt appears on your LCD screen. It could reset itself when you take out your batteries, I wouldn't think it would? By the way you have had some awesome pics. I think you got my lucky camera, that is the one I got all my good bucks on last year, this year all I can get is dinks!

It will hold the previous settings even when the batteries are removed. The only time I've had it revert back to the default settings was when I had no batteries in the cam for several months during the dead stretch from antler drop to when I put the cams back out.

That is exactly what I did. There were four options, three with icons on the LCD and one without, I left it on the option without an icon. I'm back in business I hope.

One other note and perhaps you already do this but I AlWAYS disable the LCD screen when I put the P41's out. Conserves a lot of battery juice.
