Hello all, I'm looking for some opinions on trail cams. I'm looking to expand from one camera to two. I currently have a cuddeback excite, and I love it. I was thinkin of getting another one. I may get another cuddeback, but I was also looking at a stealthcam infrared and a moultrie infrared. Anyone have any experience with these? they are about the same price as the cuddeback but have infrared. I'm happy with the cuddeback but I don't want to step down in camera just for infrared.. thoughts?

If you look at tests you'll see the new 3.0 cuddes took about 1/3 of the pics of the old 3.0 cuddes. Same sensor as the 2.0.

I guess the thing about the new cuddes is the sensor is set that it only detects movement straight down the middle. It doesn't widen out so it misses deer just on the edge of the cameras picture capability. Yes it has a fast trigger but crappy sensor.

I'm not a fan of cuddeback. At least not the new ones. They cheapened them down and then charged a higher price.

I would definately try the moultrie IR over the cuddeback excite. If you want flash photos go w/ the new 4.0 they are 70 dollars cheaper. You could just about buy 2 for the price of the excite.

Plus they have a fast trigger more megapixels, and great battery life.

If you want really nice pics for low 200's than make your own homebrew p41. Better pics, very fast trigger and you can adjust them to your settings. Look at homebrew 101 at top of trail forum and hagshouse.

thanks for the help, I went with the Moultrie I40, but i looked into the homebrews and I am thinking of attempting to make one of them. You guys are getting some awesome quality pics with those.

on the home brew cameras, can you use any of the newer sony cameras? I did a little looking around and noticed you can buy a new 7mp sony for the same price you can get the p41 off of ebay. If anyone has tried it let me know

You should really consider a homebrew. They arent as hard as they seem and if you want you can buy all the parts pre-made and its more like putting together a kit than building. Not all cams will work, in fact most wont. Go with the standard cams, P41, P32, S600, and youll find plenty of help if you run into trouble. And there is a good reason the used P41's are worth so much!

awesome, know any websites off of the top of your head to get me started in the right direction? Thanks again for the help!
