I was curious if there was any course that you have to take before you can buy a fur harversters license. Or can you just buy that? Thanks

You are not required to take a course. However, if you are new to it, I would recommend going to one of the furharvester courses that the state puts on. It would be well worth your time and the price is right.

150 Class,
Any idea where I can get any info on the trapping classes the state offers.
Thanks,

I have trapped for nearly 40 years and I would advised you to buy some trapping books to learn the basics if you are new to this wonderful sport. There are many really good ones on the market and they are resonably priced. If you don't know were to find any look on Ebay, they usually have a lot of them. The trapping seminars are good, but they are usually given in a controlled setting, not what you may experence in the outdoor environment. Try to find a trapper that is willing to take you out and show you first hand his/her method of trapping, set sights, lures, etc. You may have to travel outside of your local area to do this as some trappers may not wish to educate the competition. To bad many of them feel this way as in my opinion the future of trapping is in the hands of new comers to the sport. Good luck!

Bowdude - Watch your local newspaper or call your regional DNR office, they should be able to help. Their number is in the requlations info at their website.

Unfortunately, there are not too many of these classes since it is not required like the hunter's safety course is and furharvesting is also a smaller group of people. Also, blake has some great suggestions, especially the hands on idea. That is why I also recommend the course since that is what much of it is, hands on.

This "test" question reminds me of when I was in California. I did some fox & bobcat trapping in the Cleveland National Forest area. California give a written test prior to issueing a license. I remember one question showed a picture of a bird, a turtle, a coyote and a snake then asked you to circle the fur bearing animal. Good thing they did'nt put up a picture of a fish!
