Tree choice

If you had a choice of trees, one being tall and straight with no branches for 25 or more feet so you could get at least 20 feet off the ground, or a short tree with lots of branches that you could only get 12 feet off the ground, which would you choose?

Point being is it better to be up high and in the open or down low and have branches to break up your pattern? Again, with all things being equall like scent control, wind, etc.

If you've got enough branches to break up your outline, I'd take the low tree every time. Might have to watch your movement just a little more, but much better shot angle.

The lower tree with more branches. Something to break up your image and I hate heights.

Depends on the situation. In one instance i might prefer the big tree, in another i might want the cover tree.

I'd take the high tree above where it splits or depwnding on where the deer are suspected to come from, get on the opposite side of the tree. I tend to stand while I am bowhunting so I minimize the blob effect I have. But just like DOR said...every situation is different and I may hunt the lower tree if I thought I could get away with it.

If the lower tree had so much cover that you only had a few small windows to shoot from, I’d pick the tall tree because I don't like that. Otherwise I’d pick the lower one for the better shot angle.

Anytime you can break up your outline you should.As far as the tree having too many branches you could always trim.But you can't make new ones grow on an open tree

The Real question is how high is the canopy of the other trees around it, if its a high canopy, and you could shoot with the big tree go for it, if its low and you couldnt shoot well out of the high tree take the low one. for me its all about whats around it, higher the better is more preferred but alot of times that high you cant shoot, and are forced to hunt lower

I'd more than likely use the lower one with the cover.
