Tree Planting Suggestions

I am planning on doing some tree planting this spring. Looking at planting about 100 Crab apple seedlings and a bunch of Elderberry cuttings from John at Big Rock. This is the layout of my 40 acres. The red line shows the borders of my property on the south and east boundaries. The road boarders on the North and West side. The bigger food plot on southwest side of property is about 5 acres and the smaller food plot on southeast side is about 3 acres. I have planted a screen of Red Pine along the southern boarder of southwest food plot 5 years ago that are starting to take off. Any suggestions as to where you would be planting the crab apples and elderberry would be greatly appreciated.

I would suggest near the blind somewhere, but hard to say if you want to remove tillable/food plots.

Nice combo though, crabapple and elderberry.

Do you have many oaks, otherwise put a row or two of hybrid oaks and you would have some acorns in 10 years to supplement the crabapples and elderberry.
