Tree stand Safety

I know this gets brought up a few times a year, but a recent accident caught my attention. My wife is a nurse in critical care and just recently had a young guy life flighted in after a tree stand fall. He wasn't wearing a safety harness and lost his balance. He fell from the tree and couldn't move. Not sure how they found him, but long story short, he is now a quadriplegic. So any of you who currently don't wear a safety harness, please do so. It only takes one slip to change your life and the lives of those who love you.

Good luck to all of you who still have a tag and congrats to those that are tagged out. It's a great time to be in a tree, but be safe out there.

It is a great reminder. I go one step further and attach a life line to the tree as soon as I have my stand up. I connect to it on the ground via my hunter safety system and am never disconnected until I am back on the ground. slide the teather up and down as you ascend/decend and it works great. A lot of falls occur while stepping from the tree sticks to the stand. This eliminates any chance of falling. Small investment for a great amount of safety.
Heading to our spot tonight and hitting it hard the next 4 days. Hoping with the front coming in tomorrow night will get some action stirred up....
Good luck to all with tags still in their pockets!

One thing I would like to add is inspect all of your tree stands before you use them. I hunt a gorrilla stand I had for a few years and when I stepped into it 30ft up in the air the platform kind of dropped 1/4 inch. It wasn't the usual stand setting into the tree it was something different. When Climbing down I noticed the Cable that holds up the platform had 4 of 6 steel wires that were completely broken!!!

Talk about a shock!! I took that stand down immediately. I then went home and inspected a newer gorrilla stand and same thing on another one but only 2 wires were broke. They simply rusted through and broke!! Inspect those stands gentlemen!!
