treestands on public land???

I was curious if anyone knew the regulations of treestands on public lands, do the stands have to be taken down every nite, or can they be up the whole season. I am curious to know, cause I am thinking about hunting public land this upcoming year and would like to know what I need to buy for stands. I saw a monster buck that will go 300 lbs tonite, and had 6 points already!

Flugge, the book says you cant put a stand on state ground untill a week before season, then it can be left there untill a week after season closes.Just remember if you leave stands on public ground, they have a way of dissapearing.

Also you cannot use screw in type steps on public ground, must be a ladder or tie on type tree steps. If you go that way take the bottom steps off and chain/padlock your stand up and the person would have to be hard up for a stand in order to get it down. I used to do that when I hunted down by Lake Odessa in Louisa County, I also used the most beat up treestands I could get my hands on and that were still safe. If you can get that big boy patterned don't rule out a good natural ground blind along his early season travel route for a shot opportunity.

I have only known 1 person who has had a stand stolen on state land and he was asking for trouble leaving it there for so long. I used to use a set of stick ladders and take the top part off as I went down but that got a little old after a while so now I use a kryptonite cable lock ($12.00) and havent had any problems.

I hunt quite a bit on Iowa public land. I use API AL-100's and climbing stix. My stands are in good shape but only cost $70/each. I sometimes leave one up as long a 5 days, but pack out my stix each time. Not had a theft problem yet.

why dont you just get a climbing tree stand...very portable, you can be very versatile w/one of these....

so where did u see this monster?...let me guess, harland gardens?.....hehe, you dont have to tell i just thought it would be fun to guess, im assuming its close to your dads place
