Tricks of the trade

I'm just wondering what other guys do as there tricks or secrets that help there hunt. Anything from stands to scent. Last year I took my rattle bag and threw out the wood spindles and put in 4 or 5 elk antler pieces and a few whitetail antler pieces around 6-8 inches. Sounds great and the deer seemed to like it or at least not mind it. SO lets hear it... lol whats your secret

Smoking up. I dont use any scent away spray or anything of that matter. Just stand in smoke for 5-10 before i go hunt and im good to go. I have had more sucess with this than any other scent system and ive tried them all.

I don't waste money on the this and that mineral or "trophy-rock"...a $3 (40pound) bag of water softener pellets seems to do the trick and goes a looooong way.

my "MORTON" brand sponsorship will be forthcoming:drink1:

Never heard of it before, and I wouldn't try it, but if it seems to work for you than great. I'm guessing you've got a lot of folks in your immediate area burning wood in the fall and winter?

I had never heard of using smoke for scent conrtol until the other day when I ran across this- (informational only, not endorsing or selling anything)

The Scent Smoker concept is centuries old and doesn't require expensive special clothing or even special techniques.

It is simple to use and effectively kills and eliminates all odors PLUS you end up with a cover scent that is naturally occurring EVERYWHERE.

Smoke is found everywhere, in every area and regardless of what you thought about smoke, if used properly you will effectively become "ignored" by every animal.

The Scent Smoker system is a specially designed smoker that produces a large volume of smoke - This system is the results of using just about every method to smoke up our hunting gear with varying results. We have used everything from campfires to coffee cans to smoke up our hunting gear but they weren't very convenient and none of these techniques produced the amount of smoke we knew we needed to effectively eliminate the scent. So, we started on our search to find the perfect smoker and when we did we knew we were on to something.

We have completely simplified the technique to maximize the scent killing ability in the shortest amount of time without risking damage to your hunting gear.

The Scent Smoker will outperform every other method hands down. It is easy to light and will produce large volumes of smoke within minutes, giving you the best coverage and scent killing technique, period.

Some of the advantages of using our system are:

  • No special expensive clothing required
    • Wear your favorite hunting gear
  • Won't smell like Hydrogen Peroxide (main ingredient in all "scent killer sprays")
  • Clothing will not be wet - actually it will be warmed by the smoke
  • Lasts a long time and will actually become more intense as you sweat or if it gets wet
  • Smoke actually adheres and coats your gear killing everything
    • Kills bacteria and keeps it from regrowing
    • Same principle why smoking meat kills bacteria and keeps it from regrowing
  • Simple to use - takes only minutes to completely be smoked up and ready to hunt
  • Can be applied to all your hunting equipment without risk of damage or stain
  • It actually works and you will blend into the actual natural surroundings in the woods
Have you heard about the group that has a "smoke trailer" and everyone who hunts with them has to go through the trailer?

Add our system to the carbon suit and now you can effectively use both. But the great thing about our system is you do not need carbon suits for it to work.

What amazed us the most is when we released our secret weapon we found out that thousands were already using some form of smoke and were "wondering when someone would come out with it"

We know our system works if used properly and hope you will try it out and let us know how it worked for you.

Its just regular old smoke. I have an old be smoker, much like the one KShunter posted. You can buy a bee smoker online for under $20. I get a fire going in it and shove a bunch of cedar branches in it. Then i just "spray" the smoke on me and all my equipment before i hunt.
Ever noticed how after you set by a campfire you smell like smoke for a day or two. Well that smoke gets in your pores and does an amazing job of covering up your scent.

And yes, quite a few folks use exterior wood stoves to heat their houses in rural areas around here. But deer in any part of the country are going to be accustom to the smell of smoke. Farmers burning brush piles, people burning leaves, wood stoves, camp fires, bon fires, there is literally a ton of ways for your deer population to come in contact with smoke, and most of the time that smoke comes from a long ways away and thus they do not associate it with humans.

last fall we had several combine fires (including ours)...Being on the fire dept you kinda have to go to them. Went to one and yeah I wreaked of smoke while in the stand and surprisingly i didn't get busted by any deer. I believe that it works. For me I discovered it on accident but now after reading it from another source i realize that i am not going that crazy after all

Why not just start a small fire for free (ok a match might cost a penny?) and get covered in smoke. Seems like an effective way to hunt.

I have tried smoke and all kinds of cover scents... In my opinion they all suck. I have bow hunted since 1982 and I dont even burn my woodstove until the rut is over. What happens is ANY ODOR alerts deer, they start looking around if your looking to pass many deer waiting on a big buck it just does not work.

#1 for me is rubber boats your feet STINK!!!!!! # 2 is chew the same doublemint gum for hrs after the flavor wears off. #3 Hunt high on ridges with scent dropping down a ditch where deer wont be walking.

Where can I buy Rubber Boats?

I like to store all of my hunting clothes and whatever gear that goes to the stand with me in a large rubbermaid container full of leaves from oak trees.( any leaves will do, but oaks seem to resist crumbling a little better). I store them all year and change the leaves each fall. works pretty good. Still looking for tips on how to get the rubber smell out of my boots. Tried water and setting them out in the sun for weeks; baking soda; etc. they still stink.
