Troubles with Scent Blocker

I have two scent blocker jackets that have a very pugent chemical odor similiar to paint. They have always been stored in scent free containers.

The first jacket picked up the odor last year and I tryed everything to get rid of it. I washed it and dryed it repeatedly. I then left it out in the elements for 6 months but I still can't get rid of the odor.

My second jacket picked up the odor at the start of the season and I can't get rid of it either.

I finally contacted the company to relay my troubles. They acknowledged the odor as "normal" even stating their president has a jacket that smells but they repeatedly stated the odor will not spook the deer and were not willing to replace or remove the odor from my jackets. We both acknowledged that the conversation ended with a disatisfied customer.

Again the smell is very noticable and very foriegn.

Anybody else have this problem? Sorry for airing my concerns but I thought I should pass this information on to fellow members.

On a side note and suprisingly without using the "carbon" garmits this has been my best year ever considering I haven't spooked (stomping blowing etc) a single deer in stand.

I am on my second year with my scentblocker jacket, and haven't noticed any odors. I do notice an odor with my scent blocker head cover, but figured it was from breathing into it. I'll take a closer whiff, and see if I notice anything unusual.

Chris,
Just out of curiosity, is it the zip-out carbon liner or the outer shell of the jacket that has the odor?

This is a problem I have also experienced and complaint seems to fall on deaf ears. I returned two "Scent Lok" jackets and finally got one without the STRONG chemical odor. The manufacturer also stated this odor is non offensive, but I have a hard time believing that and am not gonna find out by experience. It seems some suits (same lot) have the odor while others don't. Hit and miss. I've been told by some that it is the carbon that gives off the odor while another person thought it was the resin they use to bind the carbon to the suits. I will not purchase any more carbon clothing.

Nothing beats having a good wind anyhow.

Similar expierence with the company, can't get the zipper zipped up called the company and they said it must be missed alined. And they can't do anything about it because the sixty day warranty is up. They were not much help at all and seemed arrogant.

OneCam, One question is it paint smelling or an Either/Urine like smell? I have noticed the last week or so my pickup box (w/hard toneau) has that smell when I am in/out of my sent proof bag. It is getting so bad that I thought the tom cat crawled in there and left his "bussiness' on my stuff. I can smell it and it is very unpleasant. My suit is the Scent Blocker Plus. I am wondering if this is the same smell. I have also washed and dried but I still smell it.

i have sent blocker plus and i havent smelled anything like that but i have been wondering if these carbon suits is worth the money ? i haven't seen anymore deer with one than without i don't think i will buy another one .

One Cam,

I have scent lock and have been very pleased with the results. Have not been busted yet. And I haven't noticed and strange odors. But I'd rather be in your shoes having killed a big buck I have yet to do so scent lock or not!!

I had the same problem with my scent loc suit. I sold it at a loss. It definitely had a chemical smell to it.

I would also like a eplanation from the company about the smell. If i can smell it deer can smell it. Deer will learn to spook by associating the smell with there number one preditor.

Well, I pulled out my camo's to give'em a wash before season and the one Scent Lok jacket I had that didn't have the chemical odor, now has it. I am returning it for a jacket without a liner.

I haven't had any problems with my scent-lok yet. I have the original model..hotter than heck in pre-season but still works really well, probably time to upgrade a little.

This must be a random problem. I have had scent blocker for the past 3 years and haven't noticed anything like that at all. I have recently just purchased the scent blocker 3-D leafy suit and so far I haven't noticed anything. I do feel that they make a big difference and I feel more confident when I am wearing it. Good luck to everyone this year, it won't be long now!!!!!!
