i was wondering if you could ever wear out a mouth call i bought the quaker boy three pack at walmart on saturday the one with the old boss hen and the screaming green boss hen and another one and with in a couple hours me and my brother got to making our yelps sound pretty good and it was our first time using mouth calls but the next day we tryed it and they didnt sound as good as the day before thanks joe

If you were working with them that long you probably had them pretty warm and flexible. After a night of sitting I'm not surprised they changed their tunes a bit. Keep working with them repeatedly to get them really broke in. In my experience you can wear a call out, but it takes significantly more time than one afternoon of practice. Keep at it and good luck!

Joe,
Calls will tend to stick together after a night or two or sitting. Until you work them again and get the reeds apart they will sound funny. If you pull the reeds to try and get them unstuck be careful you do not tear them.
They will wear out but you have to use them a heck of a lot. One or two nights will not wear them out. Sometimes the more wear you have in them the better they sound.

Make sure you put them in the refrigerator if you do not plan on using them for awhile.
Like Muddy said practice, practice and more practice.
Good luck on your calling.

thanks for the info i havent benn practicing latley because i have a head cold

Keeping them in the fridge definitly helps. Another thing I do to keep them in good condition is to keep the reeds seperated so they can't stick together. Penn Woods calls make something called a "Tone saver". Basically it is a small wire that you insert between the reeds so they don't stick. If you can't find these, take pieces of toothpics and carefully slide in between the reeds right after you get done calling.

I usually keep mine in the baking soda box in the fridge. Not sure if it actually does anything or not but my step-father always kept them there.
