Does anyone plant turnips for food plots? How do you like them? Where is a good place to buy your seed? What is a far price per acre? Any info would be great!!!

QDMer, I would SERIOUSLY look at Tecomate products, especially the Lab Lab Plus and Monster Mix products. www.tecomate.com.

Read my latest post in the Trail Cams section entitled "Another Georgia Buck". I know a lot of QDM areas here using it with ASTOUNDING results. I WILL be planting it this year!

I have a small plot in this year and to be real honest I haven't had much luck with them, Thunderidge also has a plot in and he hasn't either. I am going with winter rye next year they seem to love it. Just my 2 cents!!

I would also like to find a local source for turnip seeds, meaning to contact Old Buck as rumor has it he has them planted. Ground prep to proper pH with lime, fertilizer, & weed control are probably more important than what seed or seed mix to use. Quality seed from the local elevator is a fraction of the cost of the "brandname" mixes out there.

pharmer is correct. I tried turnips for the first time this year. They got quite a bit of attention at times in the fall. I intend to do some more experimenting with them under a variety of situations in the future. The seed was ordered by a friend not local. I can't remember where he got it but as I recall it was quite inexpensive.

I have also read that sugar beets are a good attractant for late season if you can get them to grow. I just love to experiment.
