Update on NR Landowners

Saw this in my weekly IBA newsletter.

Hopefully we are about done with this for the year.

"HF 722, DISCUSSION IN THE SNRC. Sen. Johnson discussed an older property tax case that held that nonresident landowners must be treated the same as Iowa landowners. His question was whether nonresident landowners must be treated similarly as resident landowner for deer licenses. The DNR responded that a US Supreme Court case and other cases directly related to non-equal treatment of nonresident hunters by states has been upheld to be legal. SNRC Chair Dearden made a point that just because a nonresident owns land shouldn't entitle them to additional hunting privileges since the game is owned by the state and not the landowner. Dearden would want a nonresident son or daughter who did not own land to have an equal opportunity to obtain an anysex license as a nonresident landowner.
The threat of a lawsuit or an injunction was hinted at by the lobbyist for the Friends of Iowa Landowners and Sportsmen, a group representing nonresident landowners."

I've been back and forth on this issue and understand the passion on both sides. After a lot of thought I hope the regs stay exactly the same.
I own property in Iowa and believe maintaining that hard to get tag while having a place to hunt for as many weeks as desired when drawing a tag maintains, and actually increases, the value of the land.
Nothing will devalue the land and the wildlife resource quicker than open flood gates.
Good job Iowa state legislature you keep my investment in tact every spring.
