i know food saver is THE brand out there, but are rivals worth a crap? i went to the local pamida today, rivals were on sale for 50% off. but then i got to looking at the 3 different models of foodsavers they have, and decided to do some research. what model foodsavers are you using? i just hate buying the offbrand, and then buying the name brand down the road when the knock off doesn't match up

thanks

Rivals are not worth the money they save IMO. When they go out of business their accessories usually won't work with another off brand. I say get the Food Saver brand, get the best one you can afford. I bought a higher end one and it has worked great for several years now.

Whatever you do buy, make sure you get Food Saver bags. The off brand bags SUCK badly and usually they end up not sealing properly in my experience.

I have a Food Saver sealer, and I buy the Black and Decker bags at Wal-Mart. I've also bought their generic ones a few times, and haven't had trouble with any of them. I seal up steaks, brats and ring bologna. The costs are a lot less for these bags, and that adds up to a pretty good savings over time.

I have a Food Saver vacuum sealer. Last year I bought some cheaper bags at Wal-Mart and thought they weren't quite as good as the Food Saver bags. So this year I went back to Food Savers. Wish I could remember what the other brand bag was. It seems to me Wal-Mart only carried two brands at the time. They weren't Black & Decker.
