When do bucks start to loose there velvet?

Bucks start to lose their velvet in NY around the first 7 days of sept.

Saturday morning I went on a drive and saw 11 bucks. All but one were still in velvet. A small 3x3 had shed his velvet. He was standing next to another small buck that was still in velvet making it easy to see the difference.

Seen my first in hard horn last night. Small 8 point.

In eastern Iowa... about right now. A guy at work has trail cam pics on the same buck over the last several days and within the last two or three days he is a hard horn now. I am sure others will be changing over soon.
