Does anybody have any luck with putting out water tanks? How to keep them clean/full? What material to use? Above ground or in ground? I'd like to hear what you guys are trying.

If your ground will hold water I would dig out a small area in a low spot, check out qdma.com there are some good post on this in forums

Careful as this creates EHD breeding grounds very easily.

Same result if it has a liner? Such as tarp, or kiddie pool, or lawn/garden pond?

Old tractor tire fill the bottom with concrete and cut the inner ring off the top

Many a cow have been watered the same way. But usually with a hydrant or spring next to it.

I watched a show in wisconsin they just jad a kiddie pool set out by the blind, pretty sure that wouldnt fly in iowa

Is this considered baiting? If so, guess it would need to be removed prior to hunting that stand.

it is not illegal in WI. I contacted my local game warden, and he told me I can make my own waterhole, as long as it's not in a low wetland, then I would need a permit.... I have made a few of these. two of them I used some water tubs that hold about 100 gallons. I fill them up about 2 or 3 times a year, the last time about October 20th, that usually gets me through the rut....

I also have had a buddy with a dozer come in and make a little funnel action to a deep hole he puts in the ground. I put a pond liner on it, and then he fills dirt back in over the top of the liner. The water hole is about 30 feet from the ridge, and when it's full, it's usually about 7" or 8" deep.... works great...
