Watertruck Buck?

I'm new to this, but I am looking for any information on the Watertruck Buck. I beleive it is a typical buck with a score of 192 5/8. Does anyone have stories on this?

It's been a few years ago, but I think it was a large buck that met his maker when he crossed paths with a city/county watertruck on a highway. I want to say it was around Cedar Rapids, or Des Moines but I can't be sure. I also thought Larry Zach (Old Buck) did a painting of him, but I checked his online gallery and couldn't find him, so I could be totally wrong on this. I'm sure someone who remembers it a little better than I do will post and help you out.

I am trying to compile information so I can write a story, but I am having a really hard time getting the details. Thanks for the help

There was a full length story on this deer in "Iowa Game and Fish". This was few years ago, maybe even longer.

Larry Bowen?? Taxidermist in Cedar Rapids?? Pick up a phone book and I think this will get you close. I was thinking he may have ownership. May be wrong.

The Water truck Buck was hit by a vehicle on Shaver Road within the city limits of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Im not sure if the rumor that it was hit by a city water truck was ever proven, but the nickname stuck. Gary Bowen of Artistic Wildlife in CR mounted the buck and still owns the rack... ( I think). The buck was some what of a celeb in the NE part of CR. Numourous pictures, sightings and sheds from the deer had been circulating up until his death. There was a series of prints done by Bordingnon a local arist. I would post a link if I knew how... someone will step in and help out Im sure.

I hope this helps....

Woody's got the facts. The "water truck" buck was struck by a vehicle down by the city water building on Shaver road. No city worker ever reported hitting the deer and no city vehicles had any damage.

The deer was a legend in the area. I lived on Linmar Drive at the time, 1/2 mile from where he was hit. He was a magnificent animal - nothing more frustrating than seeing no deer during a morning hunt only to come home and have the neighbors tell me he was chasing does in the Isaac Newton school yard across the street. At a house just up the street, he would use his antlers to shake a small tree they had a bird feeder in and then eat the seed that fell out. I got to within 15 yards of him in a vacant lot on Cold Stream Road in August of the year he was killed - incredible animal. The rack (or a replica) is often displayed at Apple Creek Gallery on Counsel Street in CR.

Here is a pic of the "WaterTruck Buck" the mount was done by Cedar Rapids taxidermist Gary Bowen, as far as I know I think he still owns the mount too.
