I wax my compound after the string starts to show frays. As soon as there is a fuzz on the string I wax it.
I watched a clip on some show that said the "correct way" to do it. They said to wax it, then use a piece of leather or denim to rub it in. That way you could get more friction with out burning yourself. Then to take a piece of fishing line/floss or and making 1 wrap around your string and pulling down shaving off the excess wax off the string.
The guy that makes my cables and strings told me to wax everything after every 3 times that you shoot the bow, so I have been doing that. Don't know if that is right or not, but this guy makes great custom strings and cables, so I figured he knew what he was talking about.
