I grew up with stick welder & some wire feed welders but can’t remember what. I am NOT a welding guru!!! Far from it!!!! I’m hoping it’s a bit like getting on a bike & picking it back up fast. Worst case, some time messing around…. I think I’ll get it. Before pull trigger wanted to fire off…. It’s the miller 255 listed here. It can do flux which is similar results to stick I think. Pulse mig, mig, stick, tig (no clue what tig even is!!!!)
I got little things to weld, light thin steel so the pulse mig might be good there. Then I got heavy stuff to weld…. Big implements, welding stuff like steel beams for a barn or structure. Big implement repairs. Broken ANYTHING. General fabrication “I got an idea- let’s make this______”.
Reviews seem good. Dunno if any welding guys on here but my knowledge is crap. Probably $6-7k after some supplies & tanks, torch & extras so wanna make sure im not being dumb. It’ll last me forever so wanna get good versatile one too.
& yes, I got the plugs in all my barns to run these so no issue there.

It really depends how serious you want to get. I have never run into a project I couldn't do with a 211. If you are getting i to different metals you may want more but for steel work that's a lot of welder.

So I have a lincoln power mig 216 bought it probably 12 to 15 years ago, grew up on a stick.
Anybody who learned on a stick can weld with a mig.
Don't buy a big roll of wire I doubt you will use it fast enough. I buy 10 lb roll at a time, keep it dry.
Also don’t skimp on the helmet if you can't see clearly you can't weld.

Yesterday I got out my "welder" out for the first time in a very long time. It's a 110V stick system, can only do small jobs with it. There was a battery box fastener on a Kubota UTV that had a plastic handle on it, which was frozen and the plastic handle broke off when I put adjustable jaw pliers on it. As a work around, I welded a large nut onto the bolt to replace the handle. Someday I'll join the "Big Boys" with a righteous welder. ;) I've stick welded and brazed with oxy/acetylene, never MIG/TIG.

Also buy yourself a nice welding jacket and very flexible gloves. Miller has them both , I know.
My helmet is a miller digital infinity series.
I thought a little weld spatter on the arms was necessary in the welding world. Flexible gloves would be nice, I have the big, stiff gloves and I'm always throwing them off to grab something - not good when working with hot metal........
First time I heard someone say don't but a big roll of wire. I didn't know it went "bad"? I'll have to Google it....

If you have big temp and humidity changes it can cause the wire to rust which makes it not feed correctly.
