Well, I shot a big buck this morning (140s 8pt) anyway after I shot him I knew I shot high. I start to blood track him and its dark red muscle blood. I followed it 30 yards and jumped the buck. He looked fine, like nothing was wrong. I then got back in the stand and sat for 1 hour and then got down. As I was heading back I jumped him again but this time there was no blood in his bed. I left and went back out 2 hours ago and I jumped him and knew what I did. I shot over his back cut it up but he's fine.

That wasn't actually the point of this. The point of this is that the buck jumped the fence. I didn't bring my bow over. I tried to call the landowner and finally got ahold of him. He wasn't happy. He told me that he's going to steal my stand and trail camera because I'm shooting "his deer". He's mad because I'm 50 yards from the fenceline and the deer bed on the property I'm on but I can't hunt the bedding area because somebody has a old wooden stand and a mineral pile under it. Anyway, what should I do? The guy is in his 30's so I take the threat legitimately. Should I quit hunting all together? My other two spots from last year are ruined because all the trees are gone and I just put my stand up 2 weeks ago on this place (just got permission). I can't believe there's people like this guy out there. If he does steal my stuff can I call him in for it?

I would explain situation to CO now so it's on file and if your stuff goes missing you have something on record to go back on

Yup! And now that you know the guy is a tool don't call him next time. Do it legally, like you did. Don't take your weapon and only go in to track a wounded deer. Nothing in the regs says you have to contact the landowner before tracking. And no, don't quit hunting. Keep after it. At least this buck is going to be okay assuming you are correct in your shot placement.

Biggest bummer is once that place is gone I have nowhere where there are big deer to hunt.

Plus it was on my birthday.

Definately notify the CO in case something happens. Very sad that there are people like this that think they "own" any deer that crosses their property. People have become so antler hungry that they forget the true meaning and values of hunting to begin with.

Little bit of an update, this dude is a total (insert explicit word here). I was hunting and got a call about my car being parked where it was. It was from a buddy of mine and he said "Are you hunting out of my stand?" I said "No, I'm in my own stand." long story short...the adjacent landowner had the wrong stand! After I was done hunting my buddy called me and said "That guy is an (insert explicit word here)."

So, this guy thinks just because he has CRP, Foodplots, Mineral, and spends "lots of money" on his property that the deer are his! which is funny because my buddy has been hunting the property we have permission on for over 10 years and the other guy has owned the other property 4 years. I hope none of you guys on here are that bullheaded!

Sadly I wont be able to hunt rut, with college classes and swimming I won't have any time.

No time?!?!?! I think college is when I had the most time hunting.... Scheduled all my classes, work & extra stuff strategically & asked the profs a month in advance to work around the rut. Most hunting time in my life by far SO it's only gonna get worse for time demands down the road.

Plenty of good land and good bucks all over Iowa but take looking into & no reason to put up with a pissy neighbor if you're in the right and doing nothing wrong. Keep at it and document all, cover you butt and have fun

IMO, the best investment a hunter can make is buying a LoneWolf stand/sticks, pack in, hunt, tear down and get out. Might take a little more time, but nobody can steal what isn't there and it keeps them guessing if and where you are hunting.

Just the way I like to do it, even on private ground that I have sole permission on.

JNRBroncy why do you have to be sneaky if you have permission on property. Are you sneaky because you need to be?

On a side note... if the buck bedded 3 times in that short of a period, he is probably hurt worse than you think. Any chance of going and looking again?

Keep your head up TH, don't let him ruin your passion for hunting :way:

He's fine, saw him last night he came back to where I shot him. I took a 30 yard shot and my arrow hit a branch I didn't see and didn't even hit him. I now know I shot far to the left. His neck was sliced open on the top part of his back. When he was bent down eating that's when I shot and I guess I must have twitched when I shot. He'll live to see another day.

Edit: Orginally I thought I shot over his back. But the blood on his cape was from his neck.

Not to be a downer or anything but it seems like the last two years I have read your posts that you haven't been putting good shots on deer. Maybe some more practice on the off season?

i also do a lot of lone wolfing as situations in weather seem to change so much. i consider most of my perm stands observation stands early on, and during the rut they are decoy stands.

My issue last year wasn't shooter error it was the arrows I was shooting. I've been shooting deer just fine since that point on. Shot a doe and a coyote the other day just fine.

Totally agree with the above statement, best money I've ever spent! It doesn't have to be a Lonewolf, (although that's what I'd recommend too) but being portable regardless of the brand is a great idea.
