Hey guys new to the site, 1st year bowhunting and have been monitoring my cameras and ground sparingly, had a few bucks I was wondering if some of you might be able to shed some light on. First buck to me looks like he main beams grow straight up, I know pictures can be deceiving, and the second one I was wondering if any one would be able to tell me how old you think he is??? Thanks!

Both deer look young. If it's your first year. Strongly consider taking whatever presents itself for experience

Welcome to the site ! 100% agree with the above statement- first deer that walks by I would shoot. Always good to get the experience done and know how it feels (few exceptions but I wouldn't be picky

1st deer I can't tell- looks young at first but then I also though on his way out. 2nd deer is young

It took me 3 years to get my first deer ever because I got buck fever. I have missed many nice deer. So my 3rd year into bow hunting I took my nephew for the first time. I said ok we are shooting the first deer we see. Well that worked good. 25 minutes into our hunt we had a nice small 6 point come in 31 yards. Got the job done. So with all that said take your first deer get over the buck fever if you can and just enjoy the hunt.

Welcome! Strongly agree with above post. Shoot whatever deer you can to gain the experience. There are so many mistakes that a new bowhunter can make. Taking a deer with a bow is a great accomplishment. Enjoy the entire experience and don't get caught up with what other people think is a trophy. Have fun!

Thank you for the advice guys. I do plan on this year being mainly a doe only year for meat, due to the very large amount of does I have seen on the property, unless of course I see a good buck. I have a ton of young bucks (varying from spike to young 6 or 8 point) on camera that seem to have stayed on the property (100 acres). Next spring I will be planting about 3-4 acres of food plots, and hopefully begin managing the deer on the ground.
